INVITATION
Dear Colleagues and Esteemed Participants,
We are pleased that the 2026 Deep Brain Stimulation and Movement Disorders Surgery Congress*, organized by the “Deep Brain Stimulation and Movement Disorders Surgery Society,” will be hosted by the Department of Neurosurgery at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. The congress will take place on November 20–21 in the historic halls of the Istanbul University Rectorate (Beyazıt).
As you know, Movement Disorders Surgery and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) applications have a well-established history in Turkey. In recent years, Turkey has ranked among the top three countries worldwide in terms of the frequency of DBS procedures. As in the rest of the world, we are excited to observe the rapidly growing interest in deep brain stimulation and movement disorders surgery in our country. This achievement should be regarded as the collective success of neurosurgeons and neurologists working in this field.
The primary aim of organizing these congresses is to support the education of young neurosurgeons and neurologists, especially those interested in this area, and to encourage their engagement with the field. In light of increasing interest and developments, it is of great importance to come together to share up-to-date scientific knowledge, discuss innovative techniques, and enhance experience in the field of movement disorders.
As part of our association’s policy, we aim to increase the participation of young attendees and reduce costs by organizing our meetings not in high-cost hotels but generally in affordable educational venues, keeping registration fees quite low. We strive to ensure that participants focus on education and scientific exchange. We would also like to extend our special thanks to the invited speakers who have kindly agreed to participate without expecting any compensation.
For this congress, we are considering opening several specialized sessions: “From Past to Future: Stereotactic Frames and Targeting Programs”; “Psychiatric Surgery and DBS”; “DBS & Tourette Syndrome”; “Dystonia Surgery and DBS”; “AI in DBS, Sensing Technologies, and Patient Monitoring Systems”; and “Advances in Parkinson’s Disease Pharmacotherapy and Device-Assisted Treatment Methods.” We hope these topics will attract the interest of participants.
We hope these topics will attract the interest of participants.
At this year’s congress, two leading figures in Functional Neurosurgery will deliver keynote lectures: Prof. Dr. Joachim Krauss from Germany and Prof. Dr. Bart Nuttin from Belgium. They will present state-of-the-art talks on our special topics, Psychiatric Surgery and Dystonia Surgery.
Our neurology program is also rich in distinguished international guests: Prof. Dr. Lars Timmermann from Germany, Prof. Dr. Norbert Kovacs from Hungary, and Prof. Dr. Spyridon Konitsiotis from Greece. We are confident that these world-renowned experts in DBS and Movement Disorders will elevate the scientific level of our congress.
In our scientific meetings, our association places great importance on collaboration and affiliation with international professional organizations such as WSSFN (World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery), ESSFN, MSSFN, WFNS, INS, and IP & MDS. We are pleased to state that we have already begun receiving support from these global societies.
We believe that the congress will serve as a productive platform for scientific interaction and knowledge sharing that will add value to both academic research and clinical practice. We would be honored and delighted to welcome you to this important gathering.
Sincerely,
Congress Presidents
